The Compass Dial was in demand
during the early exploration of America. It offered
explorers and other travelers the advantage of telling
time as well as direction. Place the dial on a level
surface and raise the gnoman. Turn the dial so that
the gnoman is aligned with the North Pointer of
the compass. The shadow of the gnoman falls on the
hour of the day. The Compass Dial is particularly
popular with girls and boys, ages 615, leading
